His way of working

Daniel Dutrieux realises Environmental Art, Urban Art, Sociological Art. He often refers to Land Art and is inspired by the town itself, the public places and the nature. He favours indoor as well as outdoor works that are always to be found in public places and uses all kinds of techniques and appropriate materials: minerals, plant materials, steel, wood, wind, braille's writing, texts of author and piece of poetry are often part of his works. Time and space are his raw materials and play an important part in the development of his work. Its meaning depends on its appropriateness with the place, on its relation to the environment, on the public space, and the viewer, between the work and its place.

Extract from a text in " Environnemental " journal, n°4, Bruxelles, IESLP, 1992, p.66.

In "the tree and its shadow", the artist has mixed four themes that are present all throught the exhibition : braille's writing, the shadows, the time and the public art do you know how to write "tree" in Braille? Well, you can find the solution in the position of the 13 small trees. So is it for the word "shadow" in the shape of the pavement.
